Saskatchewan Power Corporation intends to select by late 1994 a proponent to build a 3 MW demonstration wind farm in the south-western corner of the province. A one year wind resources study -- by Zephyr North of Burlington, Ontario, using equipment supplied by DRB Engineering Lt. of Calgary -- will be complete by the autumn. SaskPower will provide the results of the study to proponents who have already submitted bids to develop a demonstration project. One of these was Kenetech Corporation of San Francisco which proposed a 10 MW (nameplate) wind farm. "Although bidding for the project closed in February 1992, SaskPower could not award a contract because none of the bids met the corporation's requirements," stated the publicly owned utility last June. SaskPower's revised request for proposals will be issued at the conclusion of the wind resource study.
