Program developed for predicting offshore output

A program for predicting the output of offshore wind stations is being developed by software company Meteocontrol with financial help from the German city of Bremen. The company will work with Fraunhofer Institute in Bremerhaven and Oldenburg university, building on the university's existing forecasting model "Previento." Within 17 months, Meteocontrol of Augsburg expects to develop models for forecasting output, short term storm warnings and for control programs aimed at extending the life of wind turbine components. The company expects to market the product to utilities, wind station operators and turbine service companies.
