Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has started building its 495MW Buffalo Plains wind farm in Alberta – Canada’s largest wind farm.
The project will consist of 83 Siemens Gamesas turbines, including the European manufacturer’s SG 6.6-170 and its SG 5.0-145 models.
It is due to be commissioned in December 2024. It is due to be Canada's largest operational wind farm when it is online.
Canadian construction firm Borea will build the project for CIP.
Technology giant Amazon will buy output from a 415MW portion of the wind farm, and CIP will sell the remainder of the power in the regional AESO electricity market.
CIP had acquired the wind farm from German developer ABO Wind in 2022.
