MET Group’s renewable energy unit, MET Green Assets Holding, has acquired a 25% stake in SwissWinds, with a view to co-developing wind farms in Switzerland.
SwissWinds has already built the highest wind farm in Europe, the two-phase Gries on the Nufenen Pass.
Further projects, largely in the canton of Valais, will be developed or brought to ready-to-build status.
Christian Hürlimann, Renewables CEO of MET Group, said: “We are delighted that with our stake in SwissWinds, we are getting active in our company's home market for the first time and will make a targeted effort to use the wind potential in Switzerland.”
The country’s current cumulative installed wind capacity amounts to just 87MW.
