A former Vestas veteran has joined Norwegian oil major Equinor’s renewables arm in the Americas.
Samuel Byrne joins Equinor Renewables Americas as vice president of operations after six years with the Danish turbine manufacturer.
In his most recent role before joining Equinor, Byrne served as vice president for Asia-Pacific operations and maintenance at Vestas, overseeing O&M across 15 countries for wind farms totalling 15GW.
Equinor said Byrne’s new role would be along similar lines for the company’s US offshore wind business.
The Norwegian oil major currently has 3.3GW of offshore wind in development in the US after a joint venture with British oil major BP was awarded rights to build the 1.2GW Beacon Wind 1, 816MW Empire Wind 1 and 1.2GW Empire Wind 2 projects off the coasts of New York state and Massachusetts.
