Suzlon wins 300MW wind turbine order in India

Suzlon has secured a deal to supply turbines for a 300MW wind farm in Karnataka – the latest and largest in a series of agreements for its new 3MW onshore wind platform.

The manufacturer will supply 100 of its 3MW turbines with 144-metre rotors for the 300MW project Torrent Power secured in India’s twelfth onshore wind auction. The turbines will be installed on hybrid lattice tubular towers.

The project is due to be commissioned in 2025.

Torrent Power is an Indian company active in power generation and distribution, and cable manufacturing.

Its order for Suzlon is the latest in a flurry of turbine deals for the manufacturer’s 3MW platform, with the OEM also announcing deals with Vibrant Energy, a “leading Nordic energy company” and Serentica Renewables in recent weeks. The company has now secured more than 780MW of orders for the platform.

Share prices in Suzlon have soared 23.1% since 27 April, when the company announced the first order for its 3MW platform.

Suzlon launched its 3MW onshore wind turbine platform exclusively in Windpower Monthly last year. The platform can be boosted to a power rating of 3.15MW and is targeted at low wind sites in Suzlon’s home market of India and elsewhere in Asia.
