Suzlon wins 200MW-plus wind turbine order in India

Suzlon has secured a deal to supply turbines for a large wind farm in Karnataka as the order book for its new 3MW onshore wind platform nears 500MW.

The 3MW turbines will be installed on hybrid lattice tubular towers, as seen above

The manufacturer will supply 68 of its 3MW turbines with 144-metre rotors and 140-metre hub heights for Serentica Renewables’ 204MW wind farm in Koppal, Karnataka. The turbines will be installed on hybrid lattice tubular towers.

The project is due to be commissioned in early 2024.

Serentica Renewables is an Indian company with a stated aim to decarbonise the country’s heavy industry sector.

Its order for Suzlon is the latest in a flurry of turbine deals for the manufacturer’s 3MW platform, with the OEM also announcing deals with Vibrant Energy and a “leading Nordic energy company” in recent weeks. The company has now secured more than 480MW of orders for the platform.

Suzlon launched its 3MW onshore wind turbine platform exclusively in Windpower Monthly last year. The platform can be boosted to a power rating of 3.15MW and is targeted at low wind sites in Suzlon’s home market of India and elsewhere in Asia.
