RWE and Northland Power have selected Dutch firm Van Oord as the preferred supplier of foundations for the 1.56GW Nordseecluster group of offshore wind projects in the German North Sea.
Van Oord will transport and install the foundations for all 104 turbines. It will use its Boreas offshore installation vessel, which is currently under construction. Vestas is the preferred turbine supplier with its V236-15.0 turbines.
Van Oord is due to install the foundations of the first two phases — N-3.7 and N-3.8 — in 2025, and the second two — N-3.5 and N-3.6 — in 2027.
The first two are due online in 2027 and are currently in the permitting stage. They have a combined capacity of 660MW. The other two, totalling 900MW, are due online in 2029.
