SSE Renewables has applied to scope out a site off the west coast of Ireland that it believes could host a 1GW offshore wind farm.
It has applied for an investigative foreshore licence to facilitate survey work in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Tarbert, County Kerry.
The Scottish developer is already developing up to 2GW across several projects off the east coast of Ireland, and owns the operational 25.5MW Arklow Bank wind farm off County Wicklow.
It is one of the developers vying for a 20-year power deal in Ireland's first offshore wind tender. Ireland is due to offer contracts in the first half of 2023.
