UK developer SSE Renewables has formed a 50:50 partnership with Singaporean counterpart Equis Development to target offshore wind off Victoria, Australia.
The partners plan to bid for a feasibility licence for project development in Australia's first formally declared offshore wind zone, which is located off the Gippsland coast.
If successful, the companies would be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, operations and maintenance of their project.
The companies did not comment on their project development plans, including how much capacity they hope to build off the coast of Victoria.
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Corio Generation are also developing offshore wind farms in the Victoria zone.
SSE Renewables has previously developed operational offshore wind farms off the UK and Ireland, and is planning further projects off the Netherlands, Poland and Portugal.
Meanwhile, Equis has previously developed onshore wind projects in Australia, according to Windpower Intelligence, the research and data division of Windpower Monthly.
