Danish wind turbine giant Vestas has won the rights to acquire ST3, in the sixth auction for the Polish offshore steel foundations manufacturer since it declared bankruptcy in 2021.
Vestas’ subsidiary RPGZ XXVIII won the auction with a bid of PLN 170.5 million (€36.2 million), ST3 confirmed.
No bids were made in the five previous tenders to acquire ST3.
Vestas is in line to supply 1.2GW of offshore wind capacity in the Polish Baltic Sea, and is building a factory in Szczecin to assemble nacelles and hubs for its flagship V236-15.0MW turbine.
Poland has already contracted 5.9GW of offshore wind in the Baltic Sea, and is due to hold contracts for difference tenders in 2025 and 2027.
ST3 previously provided monopile foundations for Ørsted's Borkum Riffgrund offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
