Merfeld spent more than 20 years at GE in a number of research and technology roles, including in wind, solar and grid systems – including, most recently, as chief technology officer (CTO).

In a LinkedIn post announcing her departure, Merfeld described her CTO role at GE Renewable Energy as “deeply fulfilling”.

During her time as GE Renewable Energy, the US manufacturer unveiled new market-leading onshore and offshore wind turbines, and explored the potential for 3D printing, novel tower designs, automated blade finishing, blade add-ons, and robotic solutions for blade repair.

She has taken up the same chief technology officer role at the South Korean solar giant, which is planning a drive into the US market, as the Inflation Reduction Act offers billions in manufacturing incentives.
