Equinor awards inter-array cable deal for Hywind Tampen floating offshore wind farm

Equinor has contracted marine construction specialists Ocean Installer to install inter-array cables connecting six of the 11 wind turbines at its Hywind Tampen floating offshore wind farm in the Norwegian North Sea.

Ocean Installer will install five 2.5km dynamic inter-array cables in water depths of 260-300 metres.

The 88MW project is due to be the world’s largest operational floating offshore wind farm when fully commissioned later this year.

It will supply electricity to five oil and gas platforms at Snorre A and B, and Gullfaks A, B, and C.

Hywind Tampen uses 11 of Siemens Gamesa 8.0-167 DD turbines mounted on floating concrete spar substructures with shared anchors.

Ocean Installer plans to use Solstad offshore's CSV Normand Vision vessel equipped with an underdeck carousel and vertical lay system to install the cables.
