Danish renewables giant Ørsted has named Varun Sivaram – a senior administration in the Biden administration with a background in physics – as its new senior vice president of strategy and innovation.
Sivaram most recently worked as managing director for clean energy and innovation in President Joe Biden’s administration.
In his new role, Sivaram will oversee Ørsted’s corporate strategy globally and lead the development and deployment of technologies and digital innovations.
He has also previously worked as chief technology officer for Indian renewable energy developer ReNew Power.
Sivaram holds a phD in condensed matter physics from Oxford University in England, and is on the faculty at Columbia and Georgetown Universities in the US.
Ørsted CEO Mads Nipper said: “Varun brings proven expertise in the next generation of clean technologies, as well as the strategic and regulatory landscape in which the clean energy industry operates.”
