Troubled Brazilian energy firm Renova Energia has completed commissioning of its 424MW Alto Sertão III – Phase A wind complex in the north-eastern state of Bahia.
It is one of the largest wind farms to be built in Brazil.
Completion of the BRL 2.5 billion (€442 million) project was one of the conditions imposed by the Second Bankruptcy Court of Sao Paulo in 2020 for completing its restructuring plan.
The company, the first renewables firm to list on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange, filed for bankruptcy protection in October 2019 with debts of more than BRL 3 billion.
Investment firm Angra Partners took control of the company in late 2021 after buying the 36.23% stake owned by power firm Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais (Cemig) for BRL 60 million.
Earlier this year it sold nearly half of the 620MW Cordillera dos Ventos wind project to AES Brasil for BRL 42 million.
Renova owns a development portfolio of 6.5GW of wind projects and 350MW of solar projects, around 5.4GW of which are fully permitted.
