One of Norway’s largest onshore wind farms, Øyfjellet Wind Park, has gone online in Nordland after all 72 Nordex-supplied turbines passed their test run.
The milestone pushes Norway’s total online capacity for onshore wind to over 5GW, according to Windpower Intelligence, the data and research division of Windpower Monthly.
Øyfjellet Wind Park’s owner, Aquila Capital, acquired the project for an unnamed institutional investor in July 2019, and construction began on the 400MW project in December that year.
The project comprises 72 N149/5.X turbines supplied by Nordex Acciona Windpower and the German OEM has also agreed to maintain the wind farm for 20 years.
Most of the electricity generated by Øyfjellet Wind Park will power a nearby aluminium smelter operated by Alcoa Norway ANS, under the terms of a 15-year power purchase agreement.
