1GW Spanish floating wind project will need €2bn to complete

IberBlue Wind, a recently launched joint venture, has submitted plans for the 990MW Nao Victoria floating offshore wind project, which it said will require an investment of approximately €2 billion.

If approved, Nao Victoria will occupy an area of 310km², 25-40km off the Spanish coast in the Alboran Sea and will be comprised of 55 turbines which will be supported on floating platforms anchored to the seabed.

IberBlue Wind has submitted the project’s Initial Project Document (DIP) to Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and is also engaging with nearby regional and local institutions.

Floating wind developer Simply Blue Group and Spanish companies Proes Consultores and FF New Energy joined forces to create IberBlue Wind in September, with the aim of developing 2GW of floating offshore wind capacity in Spain and Portugal.
