AEP to buy three wind farms in Kansas and Texas

Public Service Company of Oklahoma, a subsidiary of American Electric Power (AEP), is seeking approval for the acquisition of three new wind farms, totalling 553MW, as part of its effort to protect customers from high energy costs.

The three projects, together with three solar facilities the company also plans to buy, are due to begin operating in 2025.

The 265MW Lazbuddie wind farm in Parmer County, Texas, will begin operating in April 2025, while the 135MW Flat Ridge IV and 153MW Flatridge V wind farms in Kingman and Harper Counties, Kansas, are scheduled for completion in December that year.

Once the facilities are fully online in 2025, customers would see their bills increase by an average of just 2.6%, PSO said.
