San-Diego based developer Sempra is building a new wind farm in Mexico to supply electricity to the city of Santa Clara in California.
Under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) signed with Silicon Valley Power, the company will develop the 300MW Cimarrón wind farm in the state of Baja California, north-west Mexico. Consisting of around 60 turbines, it is currently in development and due to begin commercial operations in 2024. It will generate enough power to supply more than 84,000 homes.
Power will be supplied over Sempra's existing high-voltage cross border transmission line to the east county substation in San Diego county.
