Peru’s ministry of energy and mines has granted concessions to Spain’s Ignis Energy to carry out tests for two proposed wind farms in the north of the country
The Violeta wind farm would be located in the northern department of Piura while Quercus is located in Lambayeque. Each wind farm would have an installed capacity of up to 450MW.
The company now has two years to carry out the feasibility studies.
If built as planned, the two wind farms would be among Peru’s largest. Engie is currently building the 260MW Punta Lomitas which will be the country’s largest when it begins operating next year. The title is currently held by Enel’s 132MW Wayra facility.
Peru has 450MW of operational onshore wind capacity, accoridng to Windpower Intelligence, the research and data division of Windpower Monthly.
