RWE lines up suppliers for Thor offshore wind farm

RWE has selected two preferred suppliers for the electrical transmission system at its 1GW Thor wind farm planned for a site in the Danish North Sea.

Siemens Energy is due to design, build and install the onshore high voltage substation. It is set to start construction in the municipality of Lemvig, north-west Denmark, in spring 2023.

Meanwhile, HSM Offshore Energy is set to provide the offshore high voltage substation and its jacket foundation. It plans to install the jacket foundation and substation in 2025.

RWE secured the rights to build and operate Thor in a tender in November 2021. A lottery system was used to decide the tender after several bidders offered to receive the minimum DKK 0.01/kWh (€0.00134/kWh) price for output and to pay an approximately DKK 2.8 million (€375 million) concession payment.
