RWE eyes 1.5GW offshore wind off Poland

RWE has confirmed that it bid for a seabed permit in Poland’s offshore wind lease tender.

The German utility believes its targeted 53.E1 site – about 75km off the coast of Ustka, central-northern Poland – could support up to 1.5GW of offshore wind capacity.

Awarded seabed permits out of this process have the chance to qualify and participate in Poland’s contract for difference (CfD) auctions starting in 2025.

A host of offshore wind and energy giants including Ørsted, Shell, and TotalEnergies, as well as partnerships of Acciona and SSE, and Eni and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, are all targeting future auction rounds in Poland.

RWE previously secured an offtake deal for a 350MW Polish offshore wind farm in the country’s first tender rounds.
