Ørsted orders HVDC technology for Hornsea Three

Hitachi Energy, in partnership with Aibel, has received an order from Ørsted, to provide two HVDC systems and two HVDC converter platforms, in order to transmit electricity from the UK 2.85GW offshore wind farm, Hornsea Three.

Located more than 120km off the UK east coast, Hornsea Three will comprise 200 wind turbines installed across almost 700km².

Hitachi Energy has supported Ørsted with the grid connection of Hornsea One and Hornsea Two, but Hornsea Three will be the first phase to use HVDC in the Hornsea cluster.
