Supply and quality issues have delayed the installation of four of eleven offshore turbines for Equinor’s Hywind Tampen 88MW wind farm, in Norway, until next spring.
Supplier, Siemens Gamesa, found “deviation” in the steel’s quality in four tower sections. The replacement steel has been delayed by supply chain bottlenecks and will not be delivered until September 2022.
The adjustment will be too late for this year’s weather window, Equinor said, postponing the turbines’ installation until next year. The first seven Hywind Tampen turbines will come online in 2022 as planned.
Every turbine has been upgraded from 8 to 8.6MW and the wind farm is scheduled to start producing power in the third quarter of 2022.
