RWE has named Siemens Gamesa preferred supplier for its 350MW F.E.W. Baltic II offshore wind farm off the coast of Poland.
The two companies have also opened a Baltic Sea offshore wind hub and signed a pact with a Polish university to drive education about offshore wind.
Siemens Gamesa is due to supply 25 of its SG 14-236 DD turbines for the project, for which RWE secured a contract for difference in April 2021. It will also service the turbines from the port of Ustka in north-west Poland.
Subject to a final investment decision, construction could start in 2024.
Siemens Gamesa has also opened its Baltic Sea offshore execution centre, featuring more than 150 experts in preassembly activities, project management, construction management and offshore wind farm commissioning. The centre is to have its main office in Gdansk, Poland. Its first recruitments have already started.
RWE and SGRE have also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Maritime University of Szczecin to identify joint activities that support the education of students and potentially collaborate on research projects.
