Chinese steel firm Dajin to supply monopiles for Moray West offshore wind farm

Chinese offshore foundation fabricator Dajin Heavy Industry has signed a deal to manufacture and supply 48 monopiles for Ocean Winds’ 860MW Moray West offshore wind farm off the north-east coast of Scotland.

It has already begun producing the first monopile, which is due to weigh nearly 2,000 tonnes and have a diameter of ten metres.

Moray West is being developed by Ocean Winds – a 50:50 joint venture of EDP Renewables and Engie – which secured an offtake agreement for the project in the UK’s contracts for difference auction in 2019.

Dajin is also planning a foundation facility in Europe, where it will produce monopiles weighing up to 3,500 tonnes, measuring up to 130 metres in length and with diameters of up to 15 metres.
