Nordex has installed the first N163/5.X turbine from its Delta4000 series at a community wind farm in northern Germany.
It completed installation of the prototype at the 8.5MW Janneby wind farm in Schleswig-Holstein on 31 August.
The turbine has a variable maximum capacity, approximately 80-metre rotor blades and a rotor sweep area of 20,867m2.
It is the most efficient Nordex turbine in the 5MW class for moderate and light-wind sites, the manufacturer claimed.
The prototype will be subjected to power and sound measurements and validation of mechanical loads for IEC type certification over the coming months.
Series production for the turbine – which has an order book of approximately 3GW – is now ready to start.
Since launching the turbine in 2019, Nordex has received orders for 520 units in markets including Australia, Brazil, the Nordic region, Germany and Italy.
For global markets, Nordex has received IEC certification for hub heights of 118, 148 and 159 metres. For the German market, it has passed type tests from German validation body Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik for hub heights of 118 and 164 metres.
