Siemens Gamesa to supply the Philippines’ largest wind farm

Turbine manufacturer secures 160MW turbine supply and maintenance deal to grow its leading market share in Filipino wind market

It will become the Philippines’ largest wind farm.

Under construction at a site in the Ilocos region in the north-east of the country, its completion is expected in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Full commissioning is scheduled for 2023, from when Siemens Gamesa will also provide maintenance services for five years.

Having previously supplied 259MW of turbines, Siemens Gamesa’s share of the Filipino market amounts to nearly 60%.

Vestas supplied the remaining 183MW of the 442MW operational wind fleet, according to Windpower Intelligence, the research and data division of Windpower Monthly.

The Philippines aims to meet 35% of its electricity needs with renewables by 2030, as it seeks to reduce its reliance on imported fossil fuels.
