Vattenfall's wind head to leave for German steel company

Gunnar Groebler, head of Vattenfall's business unit for wind, will leave the company by May 2021 at the latest

Groebler has been with the company for 21 years, having also served as the head of its corporate development, hydro and renewables units

Vattenfall’s head of wind Gunnar Groebler will leave the company next spring to become CEO of a German steel and technology company.

Groebler will remain as the head of the Swedish energy company’s business unit for wind until May 2021 at the latest. He will then join German company Salzgitter.

He has been with the company for 21 years, having also served as the head of its corporate development, hydro and renewables units.

Vattenfall has already started searching for a successor.

Groebler’s departure means all change at the head of the energy firm.

Earlier this year, Vattenfall’s chief financial officer Anna Borg was promoted to CEO to replace the outgoing Magnus Hall from 1 November.
