MingYang installs 5.2MW onshore prototype

MingYang Smart Energy has installed a prototype of its MySE5.2-166 unit, which it claims is the most powerful onshore turbine installed in Asia.

The MySE 5.2-166 prototype was installed at a test site near Urumqi City in Xinjiang, northern China.

MingYang stated that the MySE5.2-166 is designed for medium- and high-wind speeds.

The manufacturer claims that the turbine could also be installed offshore due to its ability to withstand harsh weather conditions.

However, it has no immediate plans for an offshore prototype.

The MySE 5.2-166 turbine uses MingYang’s hydrive-drive technology, meaning it uses  a compact integrated medium-speed drivetrain with a permanent-magnet generator.

It relies on the same supply chains that MingYang used for its 3MW and 4MW platforms, the manufacturer added.

MingYang developed its series of hybrid-drivetrain turbines with German engineering firm Aerodyn.
