There is no single answer to the world’s energy, efficiency, and environmental needs, but what is inarguable is the urgent need to accelerate the transition into a low-carbon world.
This has led to a dramatic increase in the demand for offshore wind with it now a critical part of the energy mix.
Yet, there are some concerns about the underwater noise and vibration levels caused during the construction process and the impact this has on marine life.
“This subject is receiving a lot of attention at the moment,” says Rene Lutzen, principle consultant, Lloyd’s Register, “but there are some interesting alternatives that are being tested and developed – and some are at a fairly mature stage.”
