SGRE unveiled the latest iteration of its direct drive turbine on day one of the WindEurope Offshore 2019 conference and exhibition in Copenhagen, Denmark.

On day two, it has announced it will use the turbine at the 1.5GW zone in the North Sea, subject to a positive final investment decision by developer Vattenfall.

SGRE had previously been named the preferred turbine supplier for the Hollandse Kust Zuid I & II in April 2019.

The preferred supplier agreement has now been extended to include the sister project, Hollandse Kust Zuid III & IV, following Vattenfall's success at the tender in July 2019. Both projects will be combined to leverage cost synergies.

SGRE said the increased turbine capacity was the result of a software upgrade and refined processes, allowing the model to produce 11MW "under certain site conditions".
