The Mayflower Wind joint venture beat competition from Vineyard Wind — the joint venture between Avangrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners — and the Bay State Wind consortium led by Ørsted.
Mayflower Wind’s 804MW project of the same name will be installed in the federal lease area 32km south of the island of Nantucket of the southeast of the commonwealth. It is due online in 2025.
The JV said it would deliver prices below the procurement round price cap of $84.23/MWh and create 10,000 jobs in Massachusetts.
The project is also under consideration in the Connecticut procurement round, launched last month and against the same opposition.
Vineyard Wind is already developing the 800MW Vineyard Wind 1 site off Massachuetts selected in the first procurement round.
