There are 40 states with wind capacity now operating, according to the figures from Windpower Intelligence, the research and data division of Windpower Monthly.
However, over half of the capacity is installed in just four states, with over a quarter in Texas alone.
The same four states are set to continue dominating the landscape, even with the phase-out of the Production Tax Credit (PTC) at the start of 2020.
But with offshore wind, potentially, set to make a splash, and other states looking to cash-in, a wider geographic spread can be expected in the next decade.
