The offshore wind market has come a long way since its humble beginnings in the early 1990s.
In less than 20 years, the global offshore wind market has installed over 23GW of capacity.
According to projections by Windpower Intelligence, the research and data division of Windpower Monthly, over 113GW of offshore wind will be installed by 2025.
From its roots in the European market throughout the 1990s and 2000s, the offshore wind market expanded rapidly in the 2010s, with more markets being added every year.
By 2025, Windpower Intelligence predicts the top five markets will be spread across three regions, with the ambitious US and Taiwanese markets making an impact alongside long-time stalwarts China, the UK, and Germany.
Clearly, from 2019 and beyond, the figures are predictions using Windpower Intelligence's database. The database does not factor in future decommissioning and could miss some projects in, for example, China — where data is hard to come by.
