SGRE confirms 900MW Taiwanese order

Siemens Gamesa has received a firm order to supply its SG 8.0-167 DD turbine for Ørsted's 900MW Greater Changhua 1 & 2a wind farms off the coast of Taiwan.

SGRE has modified its 8MW turbine for Taiwan offshore conditions, and the wider Asia-Pacific region

The firm order follows Siemens Gamesa being named as preferred supplier in October 2018 and Ørsted taking a final investment decision on the Changhua projects in April 2019.

Siemens Gamesa will set up a nacelle assembly in Taichung harbour on Taiwan’s west coast and will source towers for the projects through its partnership with tower-provider CS Wind and metal-forming firm Chin Fong.

Offshore construction at both sites is due to start in 2021 ahead of commissioning in 2022.

The turbines will be adapted for conditions specific to Asia-Pacific markets – including Taiwan – as the manufacturer announced in September 2018.

The firm order also follows Siemens Gamesa being named preferred supplier for Swancor and Macquarie’s 376MW Formosa 2 project off Taiwan’s west cost.
