Northwester 2 reaches financial close

BELGIUM: Parkwind and Sumitomo Corporation have raised around €700 million and reached financial close on their 219MW Northwester 2 offshore project.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) agreed to lend €210 million, guaranteed under the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI) and the Danish export credit agency EKF.

The commercial lenders include BNP Paribas Fortis, Rabobank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Triodos Bank, ING Bank and Société Général.

Parkwind expects to start construction next spring, and commission the plant early 2020.

MHI Vestas will supply 23 of its V164 9.5MW turbines.

Jan de Nul will manufacture and install the foundations and install the turbines; Bladt will design and manufacture the offshore substation; NSW will manufacture the inter array cables; and Nexans will supply the export cable.

The site, Parkwind's fourth Belgian offshore project after Belwind, Nobelwind and Northwind, will receive a strike price of €79/MWh.
