The manufacturer will provide its 2.5-116 turbines, which will feature 90-metre-tall towers, for the Umburanas wind complex.
GE will also provide operations and maintenance (O&M) services at the project for ten years. It had built O&M centres in the neighbouring states of Ceará and Pernambuco – approximately 500 and 700km from Bahía respectively – in 2015.
Engie had acquired Umburanas as part of a 608MW pipeline bought from local developer Renova Energia for roughly BRL 15 million (US$4.63 million) in August.
Alstom, now owned by GE, had won a turbine supply contract in 2014 to provide turbines for Umburanas’ first phase, which was then intended to have a capacity of 350MW.
Umburanas is currently being built, and the first turbines are due to be delivered this year, GE stated.
Vikas Anand, general manager of GE’s onshore wind business in the Americas, said: "This newly announced project demonstrates our continued commitment to Brazil’s wind industry."
GE had also previously supplied turbines with a combined capacity of 326.7MW at the neighbouring Campo Largo I project, which is also owned by Engie.
Campo Largo I is currently under construction and will begin commercial operations in January 2019, GE stated.
Anand added: "Together, these two wind farms represent our largest volume of turbines in a single cluster in Brazil."
