The company unveiled the turbine, which has 57-metre long blades and a rotor swept area 11% larger than that of its V110-2.0MW predecessor, in April.
Vestas claim the new model is capable of annual energy production (AEP) 4% greater than that of its flagship 2MW turbine, the V110.
Deliveries are due to follow in the second quarter of 2018, with the turbine aimed at low- and medium-wind sites.
Windpower Monthly was given exclusive access to the V116-2.0MW machine when it was announced alongside the V120-2.0MW model in April.
A prototype of the V120 is due to be installed in the first quarter of next year, Vestas stated.
