The developer has ordered 72 SG-8.0-167 DD turbines for the Kriegers Flak project in Denmark's Baltic Sea, which it won the rights to develop with a winning bid of €49.9/MWh in November 2016.
The 350MW Vesterhav South and North developments in the North Sea, for which Vattenfall bid €63.8/MWh, will be equipped with 41 of the upgraded SGRE turbines. They are scheduled for commissioning in 2020, with Kriegers Flak following in 2022.
"The order is proof of Vattenfall’s commitment to a fossil-free future and in ensuring climate-smart energy solutions," said Gunnar Groebler, Vattenfall’s head of wind.
SGRE's direct-drive turbine will be available with a power-mode option to take it up to 9MW, and features new, longer blades for a class-leading rotor diameter of 167 metres.
