The latest 174MW order for its V110-2.0MW turbines brings the developer’s cumulative confirmed orders for the project to 1.475GW, under the 2GW framework deal.
The turbines will be manufactured at Vestas’ factories in Colorado and delivered in Q2 2018, the Danish company said.
The order also includes supply and commissioning of the turbines for five years.
The Wind XI project comprises several sites in Iowa — including the 168MW Prairie and 170MW Beaver Creek — which are due to go online between 2017 and 2019, according to Windpower Intelligence, the research and data division of Windpower Monthly.
When fully operational it will mean 90% of utility MidAmerican Energy’s retail energy will come from wind.
Vestas signed a conditional agreement to supply 1,000 V110-2MW turbines for the 2GW project in June 2016.
