The order for 28 of the firm’s G132-3.465MW turbines is the first request for the model in South America, the manufacturer said.

The machines will be delivered in Q2 2018, while the project, located in La Rioja province, is due to be commissioned by the end of the first quarter of 2019.

Developer Parque Eolico Arauco Sapem won a licence for the project in round 1.5 of the country’s auctions under its renewable energy programme, RenovAr, in November.

The developer, which is majority-owned by the Argentine state, also signed a contract with SGRE for execution of phases I and II of the project earlier this year.

The country launched the RenovAr programme in its efforts to source 20% of its demand for electricity from renewable sources by 2025.
