New drivetrains, including the main bearing, main shaft and gearbox, and rotor blade assemblies are being fitted, upgrading the Siemens SWT-2.3-93 turbines to SWT-2.3-108 specification.

The partial repowering will be completed by the end of this year, and will boost the sites' energy yield by 25%, claimed SGRE.

NextEra declined to name the projects, but according to Windpower Intelligence, the research and data division of Windpower Monthly, the company operates 130 SWT-2.3-90 turbines at the Horse Hollow Wind Energy Centre, and a further 65 at Capricorn Ridge. They were commissioned in 2006.

Both projects will remain operational during the repowering process.
