Ten marine-adapted 3MW turbines with 122-metre rotors will be installed in water depths of 4-18 metres. Commissioning is expected by autumn 2018.
Senvion's 3.0M122 turbine was selected for its suitability in meeting the stringent building permit requirements, said the company's vice-president for offshore, Cornelius Drucker. These include a hub height of 100 metres and overall capacity of 30MW.
Speaking exclusively to Windpower Monthly, Drucker said: "Senvion has always been an integrated onshore and offshore business since the company was founded in 2001."
The turbine's mechanical and electrical systems were evaluated for marine adaptation, but Drucker said that the main changes were limited to extra corrosion protection measures, familiar to the company from its experience with its dedicated offshore 6.2MW turbine.
"We could turn around things faster and bring in specific offshore aspects quicker because our onshore and offshore production processes are not treated separately," said Drucker.
The project developer is Italian company Beleolico, a subsidiary of Belgian firm Belenergia. The project secured a 25-year fixed-price tariff of €161.7/MWh in Italy's wind auctions in December 2016.
The deal with Senvion includes a 25-year full service contract.
