A total of six turbines will be installed on Jaeun Island, southeast of the Korean republic. The order was placed by Korean firm Serveone for its first wind project.

This order marks the 18th market to place an order for the V126-3.45MW machine, according to Vestas.

Delivery is expected by the end of 2017 and the order includes a ten-year servicing deal.

"Vestas has been present in South Korea for more than 20 years and we are proud of our contribution to the Korean Government's goal of reducing carbon emissions through reliable clean power," said Vestas' Asia-Pacific president Clive Turton.

According to Vestas, the manufacturer has installed 275MW in South Korea to date.

South Korea's new president Moon Jae-in is reportedly looking to dramatically increase the country's renewables share.

The Korea Herald newspaper said Moon is aiming for 20% renewable energy by 2030, up from 1.1% last year and almost double previous administrations' targets.

Korea currently gets 43.3% of its electricity from coal, 37.5% from nuclear and 13.6% from natural gas, according to the Korea Herald.
