The project was delayed by a legal battle, but SSE was finally cleared to proceed in July 2016, qualifying for support under the UK Renewables Obligation (RO) regime.

It represents Vestas’ largest onshore order in the UK to date.

Stronelairg will use two variants of Vestas’ 3.45MW platform, 53 V117 and 13 V112 turbines with tip heights of 135 and 125 metres respectively.

Vestas will supply, install and commission the turbines. The contract includes a 20-year full-scope operations and maintenance agreement.

Turbine delivery is scheduled to start in Q3 2017 with commissioning completed in 2018.
