The renamed Amazon Wind Farm Texas will be located in Scurry County, north-west Texas.

The project will comprise of more than 100 turbines and is due online by the end of 2017, according to Amazon.

It will power another of Amazon's data centres for the company's cloud computing arm, the firm said.

The project will be Amazon's fourth and largest wind site, joining 100.8MW in Ohio, 150MW in Indiana, and a 208MW site in North Carolina – the state's first wind project.

"Amazon Wind Farm Texas is our largest renewable energy project to date and the newest milestone in our long-term sustainability efforts across the company," said director of sustainability Kara Hurst.

Lincoln Clean Energy has developed over 1GW of renewable energy projects in the US, according to Amazon.

It was acquired by US investment firm I Squared Capital in January for an undisclosed fee, but the new owners pledged $250 million to be invested in renewables by 2018.
