Nordex in line for 183MW Chile project

CHILE: German manufacturer Nordex has said it is negotiating with developer Acciona Energia, regarding a possible turbine supply contract at a 183MW project in central Chile.

Nordex, which acquired the turbine manufacturing arm of Accciona Group, Acciona Windpower, in April, said the San Gabriel project is located 5km east of Renaico in La Araucania and is due online in 2022.

The site is likely to use Acciona-designed turbines, now provided by Nordex.

Acciona Group won contracts to provide 506GWh of electricity to the grid in Chile's power auction earlier this month, which will be fulfilled by the 183MW project.

"As soon as the supply contracts still pending have been signed and project finance has been secured, the manufacturer will publish detailed information on the future order receipt," Nordex said.

The German firm also said a number of previous partners had won 1GW of contracts in the auction.

The biggest winner, among wind developers in the tender, was Ireland's Mainstream Renewable Power, which won contracts to provide almost 1GW of installed capacity. The firm now plans to build seven new wind farms at a total cost of $1.65 billion.
