Citing an OECD report prediction that the number of offshore wind jobs could grow 12-fold by 2030, the shipowners' organisation said Danish legislation should be brought in line with other major European shipping hubs.
"We have a number of successful companies in offshore wind power in Denmark, so there are jobs to be had if we do it right," said Danish Shipowners Association director Jakob Ullegard.
The growth of offshore wind is a global trend, so we must have the same conditions as those of foreign competitors. It requires that we expand the seafarer's tax for offshore construction vessels."
The tax incentive reduces the amount of income tax paid, thereby reducing employers' wage bills.
The shipowners association believes including offshore wind vessel owners in the tax would increase competition.
The association also said it is important that Danish energy minister Lars Lilleholt must address the issue if he is to realise his vision for Denmark to be the "Silicon Valley" of offshore wind.
