RWE reveals its new brand in Essen, Germany

The new brand, 'Innogy', covers the German and international renewables, grid & infrastructure and retail business sector at financially troubled German energy company RWE.

The name is made up of the words "innovation" and "energy" and "technology", said the company.

Innogy is already familiar, being part of the name "RWE Innogy" previously used for RWE‘s renewables business before the decision was taken to hive of the activities from RWE‘s conventional and nuclear generation business in December 2015.

An initial public offering of about 10% of the new Innogy entity is planned before the end of 2016.

The formal renaming will take place on 1 September 2016. Until then the subsidiary will continue to bear the temporary name RWE International SE, said RWE.

"The energy market of the future is green, decentralised and digital – that’s what our new brand stands for. Innogy is colourful, flexible, full of energy and creative ideas.

"We are restructuring the group as we want to be trailblazers for a sustainable and modern energy supply – with a new image, strong colours and new wind in our sails," said RWE‘s CEO Peter Terium.
